Dog Obedience Training Reduces Stress!
Dog obedience training is always a good idea for a new pet, for many reasons.
The most important being of course that you have good control over your pet, especially when you are out and about near traffic and other dangers.
Dogs are animals at the end of the day and as such will always misbehave, so it is not their fault if you have not put them through dog obedience training to teach them that eating furniture and chewing shoes is not acceptable in your house.
Most dogs want to please their owners, that is, once they understand just which one of you is the boss.
Your job is to establish the social pecking order in your house.
This is an essential step to complete before embarking on dog obedience training, whether you are going to attend a class or train at home using a suitable dog obedience training book.
This by no means entails harsh steps to establish order.
Simple commands such as sit, kiss or stay can be taught with an even, stern, not necessarily loud voice, can make the animal understand who is in charge.
By rewarding the dog’s submissive behavior with praise, your pet will become open for additional dog obedience training and further steps can be taken.
Just be aware that some breeds will only ever acknowledge one “big dog” in the house and the owner’s spouse or children may be ignored if they attempt to give the animal a command.
These animals are perhaps best given living quarters outside of the home.
Dog Obedience Training - It Is Never Too Late
If you have ever heard the old saying that it is not possible to teach an old dog new tricks you will surprised to find out that usually a dog will be open to home dog obedience training, this is of course provided that it is done in the right way.
Ideally you should start home dog obedience training as soon as your new pet arrives in your house.
This is regardless of the animal’s age because it has probably learned behaviors with other people that you may not want it to repeat in your own house.
If you have never had experience of training a dog before then it may be a good idea to take yourself and your pet to a dog obedience class to learn the basics.
Following that you can continue the dog obedience training at your home. Just remember that you must always be consistent with your commands or the dog may become confused about what is expected of it.
